SUMMARY:Colonial Cooking Demonstration
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the courtyard of our 228+ year-old historic house for a Colonial Cooking Demonstration hosted by Charmin Russel! \nThis special demonstration will take place in our courtyard\, located in the heart of downtown St. Augustine\, and will highlight 19th-century cuisine similar to the dishes once served on this property when it operated as a boarding house\, renowned in its time for high-quality food. Each attendee will receive a sample of the dish prepared during the program.\nXimenez-Fatio House Museum visitors and supporters may recognize Charmin from our “I Lived Here\, As Well: A Woman’s Story” productions. A native of Trinidad\, she developed her love of cooking at an early age\, learning at the side of her mother\, who lived to be 103 years old. As the youngest of 13 children\, she was immersed in a rich culinary tradition that continues to influence her cooking today. In St. Augustine\, she has become an active member of the historical interpretation community and a familiar face at local cooking demonstrations\, including programs at Fort Mose and the Ponce de León Landing Celebration.\nTickets are just $5 per person\, and advance reservations are required.\nTo reserve your spot\, please visit the link in our bio\, followed by “Colonial Cooking Demonstration\,”\n\nhttps://ximenezfatiohousemuseum.ticketspice.com/colonial-cooking-demonstration

SUMMARY:Courtyard Concert with Benton Roark
DESCRIPTION:oin us for an afternoon of free live music in the courtyard of the Ximenez-Fatio House (20 Aviles Street) on Saturday\, April 4th from 4:00–5:00 PM. Enjoy a special performance by Benton Roark\, whose music blends Southern folk\, Americana\, and haunting storytelling. \n“There is a weight to Benton Roark’s music that feels both new and familiar\, like finding a well-worn map tucked into your own pocket. His songs carry the grit of Southern folk\, the sweep of Americana\, and the reflective depth of someone who’s lived a thousand miles of road. They have been described as “backwoods-choir elegance” (The Georgia Straight)\, “dirty-southern-gothic rock-country-folk” (Discorder Magazine)\, and “an experience of deep and darkling beauty” (The Austin Chronicle). \nSince leaving his hometown of Atlanta\, (where early efforts dubbed him “a crafty folk-experimentalist\,” Creative Loafing)\, Roark has called Ohio\, New York\, Vancouver\, St. John’s\, and Toronto home\, and has been a bandleader for a number of groups: the Benton Roark Band (“magisterial” The Vancouver Sun)\, Arkora\, whose Songs from the Rainshadow’s Edge earned him a Western Canadian Music Awards nomination\, and Rollaway (“tone poems in the style of My Morning Jacket\,” Maverick Magazine). \nHis latest project – Mother Country – launched in 2024 with The Sign of Jonas (Milltown Records). An apocalypse folk-tale\, a concept album\, a catalogue of rounds\, calls and responses\, incantations\, airy ballads\, and floor-stompers alike\, Jonas takes up the Americana and Southern gothic mantle\, and weaves it with the distinct threads of old time\, bluegrass\, and trad\, as well as the visionary poetry of Maritimes poet Luke Hathaway. \nAt the heart of his live performances\, whether solo or with his bands\, are the guiding truths of the journeys that change us\, places that shape us\, stories that connect us\, and the gatherings that bring it all together. Every note\, every lyric is rooted in craft and honesty\, carrying people along the road home\, and reminding them they don’t have to travel it alone.” \n

SUMMARY:Daily Rituals: A Menorcan Story
DESCRIPTION:Daily Rituals: A Menorcan Story \nMarch 16th-May 16th \n\nStep into the world of St. Augustine’s Menorcan community and experience the vibrant culture that shaped their lives from 1768 to 1830. Centered on the life of Juana Pellicer and her family\, this exhibit explores the clothing\, household items\, and traditions that defined daily life during Florida’s Second Spanish Period\, including plantation labor\, slavery\, and Menorcan wedding customs.\n\n\nBorn in 1776 to Menorcan parents who came to Florida as indentured servants\, Juana grew up in St. Augustine after her family left the Turnbull plantation to begin a new life in the city. She later married Andres Ximenez and helped operate a general store and tavern\, in what is now the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum. A mother and businesswoman\, Juana played an essential role in her family’s success before her death in 1802 at just 26 years old.\n\n\nMenorcan history remains central to St. Augustine’s identity. Their traditions\, faith\, and perseverance helped shape the cultural fabric of the city.\n\n\nThis exhibit can be seen on all of our tours from March 16 through May 16\, 2026.\n\nThis exhibit can be seen on both our Self-Guided Audio Tour\, as well as our Docent Led Guided Tours March 16th-May 16th. \n
